maleficusmaleficarum:

So I finally got up the nerve to post one of these.

It explains what’s going on with my living situation a little better than I like to talk about.

I’ve just had a very bad, long day and it finally broke what little resolve I had to stay here.

Boosts are welcome.

Thank you, in advance. ❤

Important!

I feel so mixed about this. I love that she was inspired by Divine and they want to honor that BUT there are never any complex interesting roles for fat women and so a fat woman who fucking owns her sexuality and knows she is beautiful and could choose another form magically if she wanted but chooses to be this amazing curvy goddess is something my fat happy self wants to see played by a woman (especially because fat bodies and drag queens are both often played for laughs with straight audiences). My fat self and my queer self are both REALLY worried that they are going to compromise the integrity of this character.  Also drag queens are an inherent part of lgbtqa culture and we need rather desperately for villains to stop being queer coded until we have enough queer heroes to balance out. Otherwise we are still only seeing ourselves as characters that should be rooted out, defeated, subverted, or killed, which is no message to send our youth.

Okay something that’s been on my mind about Moana.

I can’t name another film that romanticizes and older woman like this one. Grandma Tala was not just a wise old lady, she was a rounded character. She was lively and wasn’t confined in her actions to stay graceful. Her face was expressive, she was allowed to make funny faces and be a comic relief. She was just as much of the “rebellious princess” as Moana herself.

And better yet, she was wearing clothes that didn’t entirely cover her up. They exposed her back and limbs, and even animated her under-arm flab. She, and her age, were celebrated rather than diminished. I mean really, when’s the last time you saw an old lady with exposed skin, large/unapologetic tattoos, who had a bechdel-passing relationship with her granddaughter that glorified the unique bond between two women?
