ALERT: This Film About a Boy’s Heart Chasing His Crush Will Give You ALL The Feels

inaheartbeat-film:

In honor of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, we are very pleased to share with you the official trailer for our short film, In a Heartbeat!

On this day in 1990, the World Health Organization decided to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. May 17th is a day in which we celebrate the union of millions of people in support of the recognition of human rights for all. For more information on this day, please visit http://dayagainsthomophobia.org/

We had the chance to talk with Teen Vogue about some of our thoughts behind the film and share with them some of what we’ve been up to. Check out the article for an exclusive look at our official trailer, and stay tuned for the release of the film later this summer!

ALERT: This Film About a Boy’s Heart Chasing His Crush Will Give You ALL The Feels

gaywrites:

Last week, Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi said men who dress flamboyantly or cross-dress are “asking” to be assaulted. The good people of Wyoming responded with a mass bar crawl and public display of solidarity – wearing tutus.

“Honestly, this is what we do in Wyoming. Straight men all over the state are going to be joining their LGBTQ siblings and wearing tutus, buying their queer friends drinks and having a great time,” Equality Wyoming’s Sara Burlingame wrote. “It is a great time to be in the Equality State where we talk out differences and show up for each other — with or without tutus.” […]

“We always say that in Wyoming you can be just about anything you want to be, as long as you don’t push it in somebody’s face,” Enzi told students from Greybull High School and Middle School. “I know a guy who wears a tutu and goes to bars on Friday night and is always surprised that he gets in fights. Well, he kind of asks for it. That’s the way that he winds up with that kind of problem.”

The senator later apologized for his choice of words on Tuesday.

“I regret a poor choice of words during part of my presentation,” he said. “None of us is infallible and I apologize to anyone who has taken offense. No offense was intended. Quite the opposite in fact, and so I ask for your understanding as well.”

Wyoming! Incredible response to ignorance. I love this. (via LGBTQ Nation

instead of assuring everyone that it “isn’t a phase”, why don’t we just assure everyone that if it is a phase it’s fine? it’s healthy to figure yourself out? because if we tell everyone it’s not a phase and it ends up being a phase, those people are going to feel guilty, like they stole resources or wasted time. It’s not bad to ‘go through a phase’. It’s a healthy way of finding out who you are. And if it isn’t a phase, that’s fine too. But if it is, there’s no reason to feel bad.

THIS THIS THIS THIS^^^^^^

This is a wonderful point. How about instead of saying “it isn’t a phase” or “it’s a phase” we all agree that is someone tells you they might be gay/bi/trans/pan/queer, you say “great” and leave it to them to figure out their identity without your input. Because no one knows exactly who another person is. Especially if they don’t.

Some have asked me to make a post regarding gay men being rounded up in Chechnya. Now, let me just clarify that details are very slim because the government is denying this (obviously) and there are a lot of posts on tumblr with misinformation. So I’ll do as best I can here:

  • An independent Russian newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, and human rights activists have been providing this information. “In Chechnya, the command was given for a ‘prophylactic sweep’ and it went as far as real murders,” the Novaya Gazeta reported.
  • According to the newspaper, dozens of men between the ages of 16 and 50 have mysteriously disappeared off the streets. Reports say that authorities aided in these roundups by posing as men looking for dates online. They also say that some of these men are well known religious leaders and/or popular faces on local television.
  • The Russian LGBT Network has set up a hotline for those seeking help and evacuation from the region. They told the media that they have received reports of what’s been happening in these prisons. “Gay people have been detained and rounded up and we are working to evacuate people from the camps and some have now left the region. Those who have escaped said they are detained in the same room and people are kept altogether, around 30 or 40. They are tortured with electric currents and heavily beaten, sometimes to death,” Svetlana Zakharova from the Russian LGBT network said.
  • A spokesman for Ramzan Kadyrov, Chechnya’s leader, is claiming that the reports are “absolute lies and disinformation,” and said that “You cannot detain and persecute people who simply do not exist in the republic. If there were such people in Chechnya, the law-enforcement organs wouldn’t need to have anything to do with them because their relatives would send them somewhere from which there is no returning.” They are even claiming that these reports were nothing more than an April Fools joke because the Novaya Gazeta article was published on April 1st. The Kremlin is also denying any knowledge of these reports.
  • The Human Rights Watch in Moscow told the media that they’ve gained information regarding these attacks that include torture, humiliation, and at least three reports of murder.
  • Note that it’s very difficult to get much information on this because almost no independent journalists or rights activists are able to work in the region due to restrictions. A journalist from the Novaya Gazeta has spoken out against Kadyrov before and was murdered only days later.
  • A Chechen activist who claims to work on human rights in the republic (and works on Kadyrov’s human rights council) has denied the claims. She told a Russian radio station “In our Chechen society, any person who respects our traditions and culture will hunt down this kind of person without any help from authorities, and do everything to make sure that this kind of person does not exist in our society.”
  • Novaya Gazeta said they have been able to confirm their information with an “unprecedented large number of sources in the Interior Ministry of the Chechen Republic, in the administration of the head of the republic, the FSB Department for Chechnya, the Chechen prosecutor’s office finally local LGBT activists.” They are also saying that a former military headquarters is the site of the camp.

A lesbian couple gets a shocking surprise one day when God (played by Laverne Cox) shows up at their door. Upset at how humans had turned her message of love and acceptance into a message of hate and discrimination, she decides it’s time to send Jesus back to earth and wants the lesbian couple to raise Jesus. Hilarity ensues.

“What sort of sperm donor did you use?”

“God.”

“Yeah, I know, I’m being intrusive. I’m sorry. It’s just Dave can’t have kids and we were thinking we might have to go that root. And your daughter is so perfect. I just thought.”

“No, look, our sperm donor was literally God. Angels showed up and everything. Random people just gave us gifts when she was born and starting crying.”

HOLY SHIT LMFAO

Hey everyone, so if you don’t know what’s going on: yesterday, footage from Marvel’s Black Panther was released showing the romantic f/f relationship between Okoye/Ayo, characters from the comics the movie will be using as inspiration for the story.

Of course, many fans were overjoyed to hear this, as we have been waiting for lgbt+ representation in MCU for a long time. However, Marvel has since retracted this, and released a statement saying that the relationship between these two women will not be depicted romantically:

image

This is more than disappointing to many, many people. We were teased with the possibility of representation, only to have it taken away from us. It’s long past the time for Marvel to step up and start telling more diverse stories, and we are tired of waiting.

What can you do to help? Please, please, spare a moment to reach out to Marvel, their producers, representatives, etc etc, on twitter, using the hashtag #LetAyoHaveAGirlfriend. Social media is such an amazing tool and we can use it to make our voices be heard, and maybe make a change. I think it’s really important for us to try.

Please take a moment to signal boost this post as well… the more awareness spread the better! It would mean the world to myself and so many Marvel fans if we were to have a canon, lgbt female character in the MCU.

News about Chechnya, 04/13

PLEASE BOOST THIS. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

I’ve just checked the official website of Russian LGBT network, and there are news from today:

“We receive alarming reports from Chechnya that unknown people are calling those who are now hiding from persecution and offer help with traveling abroad. These people call themselves the employees of the LGBT organization and invite to come to Krasnodar and discuss the details.

The Russian LGBT network officially states that our representatives in the regions do not communicate and are not authorized to call someone. All communication is conducted ONLY through the Hotline and mail kavkaz@lgbtnet.org. We warn that such proposals for assistance are not related to the work of the Russian LGBT network and may pose a threat to life.

You can reblog this as an addition to a bigger post but please spread it somehow

psa: please don’t use the phrase “sexuality is fluid” because not everyone’s sexuality is fluid. instead say “sexuality can be fluid”.

yes! the whole “sexuality is fluid” or “exceptions always exist” or “everybody’s a bit bi” is harmful towards gay people (specifically lesbians) bc then many people will use this reasoning to guilt trip gay people into “just trying the opposite gender” which is Yikes

I think maybe it even undermines bisexuality as a true thing, because if you equate straight people having that one girl crush in high school or whatever with bisexuality, then they also don’t understand why it wasn’t just a phase, a passing fancy or a choice. Like sure I felt like that one time but then I kept dating Steve and now we’re married uwu. See you can choose to ignore it! BLEH.
