To my indigenous followers and those who are allies to indigenous people:
Please, I am begging you to make this known, to get the word out there. I am only asking for a reblog. Please help support the people of Skownan (formerly known as Waterhen).
Come Monday morning many indigenous people (elders, adults, youth, and children) will be displaced. AGAIN.
Let me tell you what lead up to the situation they’re in now.
In 1996 families protested against the corrupt chief of Waterhen (now Skownan). Supporters of the chief burned down the band office, destroying information that would implicate the chief and Canada of corrupt business.
Barricades went up. Police were called in. A month later the protesters and their leader were taken into custody.
Roughly 300 members left the reserve due to harassment and violence. Many of them had their houses burned down, had their possessions seized, lost their jobs, and most of all lost their right to live in the community.
These people were chased off their own lands by their own fucking people.
Many had to settle in places far from their original homes.
Eventually the Canadian government stepped up and told those who were displaced that they could live in Manitoba housing rent-free until more permanent accommodations could be made. This was meant to be temporary while a relocation process was put in the works to establish a new reserve.
After awhile, the residents had to pay rent which they were okay with since it wouldn’t be long.
WRONG!
As usual, the Canadian government always fucks over its indigenous people time and time again. Canada did not keep its end of the deal, instead breaching the agreements set out.
In protest, the displaced residents decided to not pay rent in order to get the government to listen and keep their end of the deal and address the injustices.
For twenty years these families have had to go through unfair treatment through the legal and justice systems. They’ve been ignored for so long.
Yet again these families (and descendants) will be kicked out of their homes, all because the Canadian government didn’t want to deal with them anymore.
Please, I am asking you to help in any way you can. If you are in Winnipeg, you can join the protests outside of the Manitoba Legislature building.
I am not very knowledgeable but if you know what to do in these kinds of situations, please let me know.
If you guys can spare, please help out Puerto Rico in this difficult time.
Folks, donating is good, but no amount of donation is going to equal the kind of infrastructural rebuilding PR needs.
CALL YOU REPRESENTATIVES AND CONGRESSMEN AND DEMAND THAT THE U.S. REMOVE THE JONES ACT AND ALSO SEND MONEY TO PR. The United States owns Puerto RIco and is not helping them. Moreover, they’ve essentially blockaded everyone BUT the United States from sending help. Call your reps and demand they do something.
I know people who are still trying to get in touch with family, or haven’t heard from anyone for a week or more. The looks on their faces when I ask about their families make me want to cry.

Guys, the first images of Irma’s level of devastation are coming out of Barbuda and it’s heartbreaking. The President of Barbuda says that 90% of the island is uninhabitable, upwards of 60% of the TOTAL population are now homeless because the hurricane destroyed virtually every building and home on the island, and that the estimated damage is valued at no less than $200 million dollars. That’s money a small island like that doesn’t have. They’re saying it’s going to take years to rebuild and Hurricane Jose is right behind Irma on the same path which means they could be hit twice. This is just one of the islands being affected.
Please, show up for the Caribbean like you did for Houston. There is no safety net for any of these islands including mine. They’ll rely entirely on foreign aid. Find local charities or global trustworthy charities (NOT the Red Cross) and make a donation asking them to aid the Caribbean. There’s whole countries being turned into rubble with no financial means to repair their infrastructures. They’re going to need help.
For the hundreds of people replying or in my inbox asking “Why not the Red Cross?!”:
Seriously, guess where I found all of those in two solid minutes of searching? Google. Even better, they didn’t charge me a penny for it.
Stop wanting things to be spoonfed to you. While you waited for someone to link you to sources, you could’ve done it yourself and already donated to people who desperately need it.
Because people are also asking where to donate instead of the Red Cross:
Habitat For Humanity [83% rating on Charity Navigator // Because with islands like Barbuda 90% destroyed and French St. Martin said to be 95% destroyed then people are going to need homes built]
Catholic Relief Services [90% rating on Charity Navigator // For those who would want to donate to a religious organization]
If there is a note or comments section on their donation page please do let them know that you would want your money to go to their Caribbean relief efforts. Houston and Florida have the US government backing them in whatever they will need but these islands will have very little except for these charities to fall back if they have any hope of rebuilding what seems to be entire countries in some cases. For the people who lost everything even a few bucks will go a long way.
For the most part I would suggest staying away from privately launched GoFundMes unless you know the person directly. Ultimately, you just never know where those funds are going to end up and if your money will be used wisely. Sure, the same can be said for charity organizations but at least there is a better shot at possibly helping through them. The five listed above are world known and have been studied by charity oversight organizations. It’s as close to perfect as we’re going to get.
Please donate if you can! [ Here’s ] a list of essentials to donate.
This’ll be queued on repeat for the next few hours.
I live in a country where LGBT people are persecuted by law, and finding skilled doctors who are LGBT-friendly is incredibly difficult. Trans people in particular encounter extreme difficulties when seeking doctors for transitioning treatment and gender reassignment surgery.
I’ve managed to find a doctor who’s skilled and experienced at FtM top surgery (gender reassignment procedure for transgender men that creates a masculine chest), and I’ve been saving for a few years to be able to undergo the procedure.
I have been informed, however, that the doctor will be retiring soon, and it is likely that he will decide to retire early, as early as next year.
His colleagues and other known doctors in the country charge double of his fee, and he’s one of the best local surgeons when it comes to FtM surgery.
My hope is that I am able to undergo the procedure before he retires, and I’m aiming to get it done by January 2018. I’ve saved up enough to be able to pay the deposit and travelling costs (the doctor is based at a different state), but I cannot possibly afford having the surgery this year with my existing funds.
The goal is USD 2,000by 30 November 2017. This FundRazr is to cover the rest of the medical fees, and for an overnight stay at the hospital after the surgery. Follow-ups are free of charge so no worries about that!
Every cent helps, and if you can’t contribute, it’s okay! A share/reblog would help me greatly as well!
Over
the last two months my health has deteriorated rapidly. I went from
having severe migraines on a daily basis, to now having no strength in
my right side. I can’t bend my knee without considerable effort, and now
I can’t hold a pen, or even a fork. This is frightening enough,
considering my right hand is my dominant one, but the bigger issue is
that I still don’t have a diagnosis as to what is wrong. The
possibilities run from MS, to nerve damage, to even possibly a stroke.
Walking
is difficult for me. I drag my foot, and my ankle rolls often. My knee
buckles and I crash to the floor. This happened while I was in the
hospital, and now it’s happening multiple times a day.
I need to get
support braces for my joints, especially my knee and ankle. Wrist and
finger splints will help me be able to hold a pen to be able to draw
again, as well as feed myself without spilling. I may also need a cane
for particularly bad days.
Any additional funds will go toward
transporting me to and from my many MANY doctor’s appointments as we
look for a diagnosis for what is wrong.
If you submit
screenshots of your donation for $50.00 or more, I will write you a story
of your prompting, up to five thousand words!
This is an example of the support I’m looking for for my hand
Even if you aren’t able to support, I would appreciate it if you reblogged this to boost it and support a disabled queer NB.
I’m just 150 dollars off of my goal. Ring splints are all I need to get now. My knee brace has done wonders. I went for a walk with it on yesterday, and had no trouble at all. I keep my wrist braces in the fridge, which has confused my poor roommate.
As for what’s wrong, the opthalmologist I saw says it’s almost certainly MS. She also said that flare ups like this can last up to six months. Vision in my left eye is almost gone and it is likely the cause of my migraine spikes. I have another MRI booked for the end of the month, as well as seeing a neurologist again.
I’m a multiply disabled non-binary person trying to raise funds to buy a powered wheelchair. There’s no way I can afford it alone, but I’m hoping that if enough people share this it might be possible. No pressure to donate if you can’t spare anything, but I would really appreciate if you could reblog this.
A power chair would massively improve my quality of life. Currently, I can only go outside when someone else is there to push my manual wheelchair for me, as my arms are too weak to self-propel. When I try and push myself I usually end up dislocating my elbows and the joints in my hands, which is very painful. I often go Monday to Friday without going outside at all, as my partner works full time and can usually only take me outside on weekends. A power chair would mean that I could go outside, by myself, whenever I wanted. It would be completely life changing to have the freedom and independance to go outside without having to depend on anyone else.
Please share & donate if you can spare anything at all.
As of right now, 26/06/17, we have £1889 left to raise. To break that down a bit, I’ve worked out that in order to raise that in the 24 days we have left, we’ll need to raise about £75 a day. Yesterday we only raised £18. My JustGiving page currently has almost 5000 views – if each of those people had given the minimum donation (£2 on JG) we would already have raised the price of the wheelchair. Small donations make a really big difference, even just 50p sent to my PayPal, it all adds up.
If you can share this post – here, on fb, on twitter, wherever – it’ll make a big difference. The more people see this, the more people will think about donating. Thank you to everyone who’s already donated and shared this post, you’re helping me get my life back xxx
Folks this is a beautiful story but these two women need help. She has NOT found a safe haven in Canada.
It’s been 10+ years since Elena (the Russian) arrived in Canada. At first she was declared a refugee and was granted asylum. Over the last several years she has been fighting with the Canadian government to become a citizen (as she is the spouse of a Canadian citizen), and has run into about a million bureaucratic and incompetent hurdles, the result of which is that she is now a stranded and stateless person through no fault of her own. Her partner has prepared a press release (http://www.cadenza.ca/index.php/en/news/#pressrelease) that contains the full story. Please read it, and do what you can for them – I don’t know of a way to donate to them, but at the very least spread the word. If you’re Canadian, please RAISE HELL about this.
