A New Wave of Bills Takes Aim at Science in the Classroom

sandalwoodandsunlight:

In Idaho, lawmakers removed references to climate change from the state’s science standards. In Alabama and Indiana, they passed resolutions urging support for educators who teach “diverse” views on climate change, evolution and human cloning. And in Florida, the legislature on Friday adopted one bill that would give educators and students more freedom to express religious beliefs in school, and a second that would give residents new power to oppose classroom materials they dislike — including science textbooks.

A New Wave of Bills Takes Aim at Science in the Classroom

I read Hamlet back in high school and to this day my absolute favorite thing about it was when Guildenstern was trying to fool Hamlet into doing something or other and Hamlet’s savvy to it but rather than saying “you’re lying and trying to trick me” instead Hamlet outta nowhere whips out this flute and tells Guildenstern to play it.

And Guildenstern is all “I dont know how to play a flute, my lord”

And Hamlet takes a dramatic pause before he absolutely ruins Guildenstern with, “Well thats funny considering you thought you could play me”

this post sounds like im exaggerating but im not it’s straight up canon

Sometimes I go on political rants, because these things are super important to me. If you are following for the johnlock and porn or whatever and want to blacklist I tend to tag things as ‘murica or American Politics.

If you are actually American I hope you won’t, since there are often actions to take to help stop the republicans from destroying our country now that the religious right have destroyed their party, but I understand that some people are so overwhelmed by it they need to limit their exposure or keep Tumblr as a fandom escape and deal with politics other places.

Want to take immediate revenge on House Republicans who voted to destroy health care? Here’s how

Contributing to oppositional nominee funds for 24 vulnerable Republican representatives is a way to get them good and scared now, so they won’t try any more shenangians.

Contributing to oppositional nominee funds for 24 vulnerable Republican representatives is a way to get them good and scared now, so they won’t try any more shenangians.

This is so incredibly important, because they’ll be looking at fundraising, and so will the Senate.

These 217 House Republicans didn’t just tie themselves to a cruel and vindictive bill. They did it to prop up the most widely-despised president in the history of the country. They deserve to be destroyed, and they must be an example to anyone else who would take the same cruel and harmful actions in the future.

Yes.

House Republicans just passed Trumpcare. So what’s next?

Some of the things this bill does, aside from repealing ObamaCare:

  1. Only covers 5% of people with pre-existing conditions.
  2. Exempts Congress from the worst parts of this bill, though they say they’ll fix that.
  3. Lets insurers once again put annual and lifetime limits on coverage for people with employer plans, effectively ends Medicaid expansion, leaves gaps in benefits, threatens Medicaid home- and community-based services for people with disabilities, and more.

The bill goes on to the Senate, where many are saying it’s dead on arrival. Regardless, we need to send a message to House Republicans that they’ll pay for their “YES” votes by losing their seats. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Use Contacting Congress to find out who represents you in the House.
  2. If your representative voted “YES” [here’s the list]: Use Contacting Congress to call their office and tell them you disapprove of their vote.
  3. Whether your representative voted yes or not, do the following:
  4. Donate to SwingLeft’s campaign to raise funds for Democratic challengers to the 35 swing district Republicans who voted for TrumpCare.
  5. Use Town Hall Project to find out if your representative is holding a town hall during recess. So far, only 6 of the 217 are.
  6. Sign up to volunteer for SwingLeft and/or check out Indivisible Guide for more actions for you to take.

After you’ve done that, you can contact your Senators. Use the same website listed first above (Contacting Congress) to find your two Senators. Give them a call, show up at their town halls, and donate to their Democratic opponents if they indicate that they’ll vote for TrumpCare.

The only way we’re going to take down this bill is if we keep the pressure on the GOP and let them know that voting for it will result in them losing their seats.

  1. Find out if you’re registered to vote. If not, find out how to.
  2. Here are some answers to some questions you might have about registering.
  3. Student voters: This is for you.
  4. What to bring with you to the polls.
  5. Click here for more voting information, and to find out who’s going to be on your next ballot.

This is a very good post. I will also make a more concise one, but this post has a lot of resources.

I 100% agree with the intent of this statement, (that women shouldn’t have to fix everything and that the overwhelming majority of rapists are men), but I just want people to know that if you have been raped by a woman, I’m sorry this happened to you and your experience is valid. I hope you get all the support you need too. Pandora’s Project has resources and forums to help.

GOOGLE DOCS HACK

There is a new hack going around in gmail where someone you’ve contact or someone you don’t even know sends you a weird ass email about a google document:

image

The most common hack is from someone with a bunch of h’s….

image

If you click it…. it takes you to this google docs “sign in” page. When in reality, google doesn’t require you to put in your password to view a document if you’re already logged in.

image

One you type in your password into this scam, boom. Your account is hacked and the hacker will use your account to send more scam emails.

So yeah, DO NOT CLICK ON THIS DOCUMENT. I know this is a very busy time in the school year and students have a bunch of google docs projects and essays to do, so it’s possible some people will click it thinking it’s for school. But please, be careful and don’t click on a google docs email unless you’re 100% sure someone you know is sending you one.

Please spread this around bc I would absolutely lose my shit if this happened to me during a project and don’t want any of ya’ll to go through that.

This literally just happened to my entire campus.

heads up this isnt a gmail only thing!! my mom uses yahoo (i know, i know) and she got one that was “from” my english teacher. the yahoo account might be connected to her backup gmail somehow, idk. but anyway, this is seriously happening to a lot of people, enough that my school sent out a district-wide email about it. remember the old wisdom, kids: if it seems shady, it probably is.
