“If A Wrinkle in Time succeeds at the box office, it could open the door for not only more directors of color being given budges of $100 million+, it could also lead to non-white leads being cast in films. Maybe, our dream of seeing Percy Jackson adapted with three non-white leads could actually happen.”
“Black Panther is a special situation, because it’s Black characters from the comic books. They couldn’t exactly change the race of T’Challa and his cast; they would be fundamentally changing the story, and the point of it. T’Challa’s Blackness is something special, something that adds to his royalty. But with A Wrinkle in Time, these characters could have been any race. They could have been white. But Ava chose to make a majority of them people of color – which is tremendously important.”

Happy New Year, everyone.
On New Year’s Eve someone set off a firework that landed on the roof of my grandmother’s house in Corsicana, Texas. The house caught fire at the same time the local fire department was responding to another fire. Because Corsicana is such a small town, emergency services didn’t have enough time to respond to the fire. As a result, the house and everything in it burned down.
My grandmother Wendy and her husband Duane lost everything and need help. She and her husband have no clothes, no place to stay, and no means to make money on their own. They ran a photo business out of their home, but everything they needed for their business burned as well. Wendy is diabetic and Duane has recurring heart issues, and they have a lot of medical costs. Recently, there was also a lapse on their home insurance due to money issues.
They only have the clothes they were wearing and their phones. Their vehicle didn’t burn up but the keys did, so it will be a little bit before they can access the car too.
This fundraiser is to raise money to help Wendy and Duane find more permanent housing. Right now my family is helping them with a place to live by covering the costs of a hotel room, but it’s a temporary fix. Everything, even a dollar, helps. I’ll also soon be posting an address where clothing for Wendy and Duane can be sent.
Additionally, if anyone in or around the town of Corsicana can keep an eye out for Molly, my grandmother’s dog, we would be eternally grateful. Molly is afraid of fireworks and likely ran away before or during the fire, as the fire department said there was no evidence of her being burned. Molly is a blue tick cattle dog mix, around the age of 9 or 10, and she responds to her name. I’ll post a picture as soon as we find one.
Thank you so much in advance for your help and compassion. I will be posting updates as they come.

Evening Dress | c.1850 —This elegant dress is made of mull with applications of jewel beetle elytra. 1942 of these glistering forewings, with its color oscillating from green to purple, can be found on the dress, 1548 on the shawl.
India was colonized by the British Empire during the mid-18th century, and from the latter half of the 19th century onwards a vast variety of products using jewel beetle embroidery was being exported to the western European markets.
Beautiful and splendid decoration design with jewel beetle elytra originated during the time of the Mughal Empire that dominated most of the Indian subcontinent from the 16th to the mid-19th century. Examples of luxurious turbans with gold thread embroidery and wedding gowns from the Maharajas with jewel beetle applications are preserved in the National Museum, New Delhi, as well as in the Jai Singh II. City Palace Museum in Jaipur. Furthermore, there has been a tradition in India of applying jewel beetle elytra as an adornment to jewelry and paintings alike. This technique is thought to have derived from embroidery. #whattheywore #historicalfashion #fashion #fashiondesign #fashionhistory #historyoffashion #vintagefashion #art #vintage #historicfashion #defunctfashion #historicalfashion #costume #costumedesign #couture #costumehistory #victorian #victorianfashion

I posted this slightly too late but it’s still the season, right?
As for there being no ornaments, either they are putting them on later or Sherlock and John were having a dispute over them (Sherlock might want to use them as target practice with his gun or harpoon or something. John obviously does not approve).

Why is this captioned 1920s new year’s eve when it clearly says 1933 and 1934 on it?
