At least eight islands in the Pacific have already disappeared because of rising sea levels. Over the next century many communities, including my family, will be displaced and lose their ancestral lands and foundation of their cultural practices. Trump removing the US from the Paris Agreement, taking climate change off the National Security Strategy, and repealing the Clean Power Plan is a slap in the face and to me, intensely personal. PLEASE contact your representatives regarding climate change and taking steps to counteract the potentially irreversible harm Trump is doing to our planet.

I am working on setting up an online store in the next month or so and it will include all of my Disney Resists prints! 10% of everything in my shop will go to the ACLU and other civil rights groups putting in the time this past year 💛

This is an issue very close to my heart guys – my family and our descendants are almost guaranteed to lose our islands and the current administration just doesn’t care.

imagine being such a limp-dicked weakling that you remove a female character’s belly fat, tattoo, dyed hair, skin tone, and half of her lips. and then you add a cross necklace for some goddamn reason.

female design: *has belly fat*
men: fucking tumblrina design. i can fix u babe
men: *draw her skinny*
design: *dyed hair & tattoos*
men: tsk tsk. oh no no, baby. here’s a cross necklace.
design: *has unique facial features*
men: how about bedroom eyes, a skinnier jaw, and pouty lips

They changed her eyes from brown/green to blue/grey, lightened her skin, gave her a thong tanline, (which implies that that white complection is meant to be t a n n e d), and replaced her lipstick with a bullet because god forbid a woman wear any make-up, even though ALSO god forbid a woman look like she didn’t put make-up on this morning.

Thry also made it do you can see very unrealistically defined nipples and areolas through her… shirt? Bra?

Her nose it smaller, too.

She’s been white-supremacized.

My color of this art by @willietheplaidjacket . Credit for the bi gangplank should go to @theartstudentyouhate , who suggested it 🙂

I’ve reached that point in fandom where, even though I know this is John Watson, I could very easily see this as a solarpunk AU of Steve Rogers.

There’s a famous quote from Dion Fortune, from one of her novels, that “All the gods are one god, and all the goddesses are one goddess.” Theologically, I don’t agree with that *g*, but I’ve reached that point where I am starting to say, All the blonds are one blond, and all the brunets are one brunet, and there is one pairing, the Man of Thought and the Man of Action. So mote it be.

“What? Like, a disabled protagonist? How would that even work? How could someone with a disability be the hero in an action show?” local anime trash boy wonders while sitting next to his box sets of Full Metal Alchemist, showing no hint of irony or self awareness.

but is Ed really disabled? sure I get he lost his arm and leg

but he’s still able to move and do things perfectly

He has prosthetics. Having prosthetic limbs (that more than once break amd need repair) doesnt make him not disabled

It should also be noted that Ed:

-had to undergo very painful and lengthy surgery to get automail

-had to relearn how to write because of his prosthesis (there’s a post going around showing he had to switch hands etc) and his handwriting is likely a lot worse due to that. This means automail isn’t super good for delicate work, unsurprising, considering what it’s made of.

-experiences phantom limb pain and therefore other associated stuff (this was only really shown in the manga)

image

-cannot go anywhere too cold without changing his automail or he’ll get really bad frost bite and it will stop working

-cannot go anywhere too hot, period, because the metal attached and under his skin will overheat and he will be badly burned

-Reattachment is painful, but needs to be done frequently if he breaks or outgrows his automail

– it’s HEAVY so much so that the strain has the potential to cause stress on his body, enough that it’s even theorized as possibly stunting his growth.

-it requires really frequent maintenance or it will break down, as shown by how when he first moved out he forgot to do that and it…broke down.

-when it does need to be repaired, it takes time to do that, during which Ed uses regular prosthetics (that usually don’t quite fit him).

-costs a lot of money (not a problem for Ed due to high state alchemist salary/having mechanics as surrogate family, but explicitly noted to being the reason why most people in the fmaverse stick to regular prosthetics along with the painful surgery)

So Ed can’t actually do everything perfectly and experiences a lot of extra hassle, problems and pain people without automail don’t have to deal with!  And any advantages he does have are more suited to fighting than day to day life (being able to incorporate weapons/fake out people who want to blow up his arm).

Arakawa did her research and thought it through. Automail is by no means a magic cure that solves all problems associated with losing a limb.

Walmart quietly lays off thousands of workers after bonus announcement

rcmmacgregor:

Thursday morning, Walmart had a flashy announcement: Thanks to corporate tax cuts, it was giving its employees bonuses of up to $1,000. Walmart and President Trump pointed to the announcement as proof that the corporate tax cuts are really a boon to working-class Americans.

Great news, as a result of our TAX CUTS & JOBS ACT! pic.twitter.com/SLvhLxP3Jl

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 11, 2018

This announcement, as ThinkProgress reported earlier, was much more complicated than it first sounds.

Walmart employees are eligible for the $1,000 bonus only if they’ve worked at the company for 20 years. Most Walmart employees, of course, haven’t worked there that long. Those employees will receive a smaller bonus based on seniority. Walmart didn’t explain exactly how the sliding scale will work but said the total value of the bonuses will be $400 million. Walmart has about 2.1 million employees, which works out to be an average bonus of about $190.

The one-time bonus Walmart announced this morning amounts to just over 2 percent of the total value of the tax cut to the company.

In the fiscal year 2017, Walmart had pre-tax profits of about $20.5 billion and paid an effective federal tax rate of around 30 percent. With a new corporate tax rate of 21 percent, the corporate tax cut is worth at least $1.85 billion to Walmart every year. Since this cut is permanent, the true benefits to Walmart will grow much larger over time. But it’s safe to say that, over 10 years, this corporate tax cut will be worth over $18 billion to Walmart.

But now it appears the announcement was timed carefully to cover for thousands of unannounced layoffs.

Business Insider reports that today, Walmart is abruptly closing numerous Sam’s Clubs stores across the United States. In some cases “employees were not informed of the closures prior to showing up to work on Thursday” and “learned that their store would be closing when they found the store’s doors locked and a notice announcing the closure.”

Sam’s Club shutdown? Employees at this S Loop store tell me they showed up to work and were told store is closed effective today. Sign on door says the same thing. Hearing other stores also affected. Waiting for answers from parent company, Walmart #khou11 pic.twitter.com/RtbY7EhiIK

— Jason Miles (@JMilesKHOU) January 11, 2018

Walmart confirmed the abrupt closings and offered an explanation of sorts on Twitter. “Closing clubs is never easy,” the company said through its verified corporate account.

After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy. Closing clubs is never easy and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition.

— Sam’s Club (@SamsClub) January 11, 2018

Business Insider identified at least 68 stores across the country that closed today. Three of the stores are located in Hurricane ravaged Puerto Rico. More stores are slated to be closed in the coming days.

Walmart’s behavior is part of a pattern of corporate misdirection related to the GOP tax cuts. AT&T and Comcast both announced bonuses for their employees while also laying off thousands.

While Trump talks about a “jobs boom,” job growth was slower in 2017 than in any year since 2010.

MULTIPLE OTHER COMPANIES HAVE DONE THIS AS WELL INCLUDING COMCAST AND AT&T.
