Transgender WWII veteran comes out as a woman at 90

transqueermediaexchange:

A transgender World War II veteran proves it’s never too late to live life truthfully.

Patricia Davies, from Leicestershire, England, didn’t decide to transition into a female until she turned 90 years old.

Davies — born Peter — has known she was a woman since she was just a toddler.

“I’ve known I was transgender since I was 3 years old. I knew a girl called Patricia, and I decided I wanted to be known by that name but it didn’t stick,” Davies told Caters News Agency.

Davies kept her identity a secret for most of her life for fear she would be shunned by her peers or forced to undergo electric shock treatment.

“The atmosphere [around being transgender] was not safe. People did not understand what transgender was,” Davies said.

Davies — who served in the army between April 1945 and 1948 — said coming out as transgender would have categorized her as a homosexual, which wouldn’t have been accepted in the army.

Despite losing friends and cheating death while serving in the armed forces, she says she’s glad she got to have the experience.

“I feel quite proud having served during the war and having done military service, in particular during the trouble in Palestine,” said Davies.

Davies, who married when she was 21, eventually came out to her supportive wife in 1987. Her wife, to whom she was married for 63 years, bought Davies jewelry and dresses that she could wear in private. Sadly, her wife passed away six years ago.

“I was 60 when it all came pouring out to my wife, she was very sympathetic and helped me all the way, but we agreed to keep it quiet,” said Davies, who first learned about transgender identity from a TV show sometime in the 1970s.

When Davies first came out to her wife, she decided to wear high heels but was deterred when teenagers saw her and threw eggs at her window.

Now a nonagenarian, Davies has begun taking estrogen to move her transition forward and has come out to her community.

“It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I was living a lie,” she told Caters.

“I have been keeping quiet. I have slowly started to tell some of my neighbors. Everybody said, ‘Don’t worry, as long as you’re happy,‘” she added.

Patricia was inspired to make the big change from male to female after seeing the romantic comedy film “Boy Meets Girl,” which features transgender characters.

Now that transgender people are portrayed often in film and on TV, Davies feels more comfortable being herself.

“It’s not 100 percent safe now but it’s much better than it was. People that I have told seem to be very accommodating and haven’t thrown abuse at me,” she said.

“I joined the Women’s Institute. I socialize with them and have a natter [long chat]. I’m having a great time. I have a new lease on life,” she added.

THIS IS GOING TO BE AN INCREDIBLE MOVIE!!!

How is this an amazing cast? There are literally only two actors out of this entire cast that are actually great actors, I have never even heard of the rest of these people.

I feel like you are only saying “Its an amazing cast” Because there are so few white people.

^ that’s all from a single movie.
Danai Gurira: Tony-award winning writer, plays Michonne on The Walking Dead, one of the most popular series out there today
Michael J. Jordan: Featured actor in popular shows like Friday Night Lights, The Wire, and Parenthood in addition to frequent appearances on film.
Daniel Kaluuya: The star of Get Out, which currently boasts a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been in the press pretty much constantly upon release.  He was also featured in an episode of the acclaimed series Black Mirror.
John Kani: An actor, playwright and director; while he hasn’t had as much work in America, he’s prolific enough to have a theatre in Newtown Johannesberg named after him.

Winston Duke and Letitia Wright have fewer credits to their names (the former has a consistent role in the well-received Person of Interest; the latter has been cast in Black Panther and Ready Player One in what is hopefully the beginnings of a bright career), but I don’t mean to belittle their successes by leaving them out, and those who aren’t as well known SHOULD be given a chance by big franchises.  Lesser known names tend to get big after starring in Marvel movies.  I sure as hell didn’t know who Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth were prior to their flagship titles.

But even putting aside how important it is that this film is led by black creators, just because you don’t know these people doesn’t mean that they’re not critically acclaimed in their field, who haven’t put in the work.  They have, and they’ve been recognized for it.  Consider checking out some of their work before you decide whether or not only two of them are great actors.

Excuse me, police? I’d like to report a murder

Fake nerd boys haven’t seen Civil War or The Force Awakens. And son, you don’t know who Forest Whitaker is? Did you get frozen several decades ago and just get thawed out? Are you ok? Do you know who the president is????

Cause you’re gonna be excited.

Welcome, new followers (and hello to all of you who have been around a while)!
I am always amazed and delighted when I get to post one of these. I used to post one at every 10 new followers or so, but I have gotten out of that habit somehow. I was surprised when I ever had followers at all and now there are 430 of you!

Bless you all! I’m glad you like what you see. Thank you so much and welcome to this blog. Feel free to ask me anything. Seriously, anything!

This blog is a hodge podge of things I love and issues I’m passionate about. There might be an interesting science article, some great fan art, and then some silly story from my personal life.  I post fan art and story recommendations as well as personal opinions and things that are important to me.  The majority of the fandom stuff I post is johnlock, though assorted other things appear as they strike my fancy (almost any incarnation of Sherlock Holmes, thorki, frost iron, Dr. Who, Supernatural, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Harley Quinn, Kushielverse, etc.). I regularly post my own writing (beltainefaerie on AO3) and, much more rarely, drawing.

Lately three has been a whole lot of American politics, because Trump is terrifying. The election is over, but I don’t expect my posting to be. I am still posting lots about how to be involved, how to fight oppression, etc. If you need a break from all that, I try to tag everything like that American Politics.

I also do post about my poly life, BDSM, sexuality and gender in general, and occasionally even my struggles with anxiety/depression. I’m always happy to answer questions about any of that. In fact, questions, comments, venting, and general chatting are always, welcome and invited. Also, I’m only selectively out as poly and kinky in my real life, so you won’t see pictures of me or my family on this blog.

More on tagging: Be aware that while I try to tag things nsfw when they are, I occasionally miss one. I reblog a variety of explicit images, including actual porn, just in case you missed the warning in my description.  I’ve known people who need their abuser’s favorite animal tagged or a certain character that reminds them of something awful in their lives. I won’t ever judge what or why you need something tagged, so if there is anything specific you need tagged, please let me know and I’ll do my best! As a general rule, I try to tag things with whatever they are, so a picture of kittens romping in the snow would likely be tagged kittens, snow, cats, but if you need black kittens or yellow cars or something specific, let me know.

Thanks for being here. I hope you enjoy! Feel free to say hi.

They sat on the couch, fully clothed, John pressing his palm into his crotch, grinding gently.

Sherlock hardened under his hand.

John pretended he was interested in the telly, not even glancing in Sherlock’s direction.

Sherlock whimpered, spreading his legs wider. He leaned back and writhed against John’s hand, gasping and shuddering with each small motion.

“John?” Unable to articulate the question, but his meaning obvious.

“Not yet.” John said in that special tone only for him, and spared a quick glance, smiling at Sherlock, laid out beside him, nearly undone.

Sherlock’s only answer was a strangled, half moan as John rubbed the heel of his hand relentlessly up and down Sherlock’s cock.

“John!”

“You’re a good boy. You can hold on.” John said, circling his thumb over the glans as he continued to stroke. “Just transport. None of it matters. All that control you have, use it. For me.”

“Yes, sir.” Sherlock managed through gritted teeth, his eyes squeezing shut. It was agonising. It was glorious.

The minutes dragged on as Sherlock tensed and strained, then kept it together, breathing hard.

“All right. Now you may. That’s my good boy.”

Sherlock shook with the force of it, coming in his pants. Sticky. Positively filthy, like a hormone addled teenager.

John’s smiled broadened approvingly. “There my boy, now isn’t that better.”
