Me, with ADHD: if you take 1 from 9 and give it to 7 thats 8+8 and 8×2 is 16

This is literally how I would have done it

that’s how i do it in my head, honestly

either that or 9+7 is equal to 10+6 which is 16

but that IS how I’ve been taught in primary school?

I would have been inclined to think 10+7=17 and 17-1=16 because it is easier for me to think in 10s. We actively encourage this kind of differentiation and flexibility in my school.
