Capitalism is literally the most nonsensical and inefficient system ever. Like how is this a fucking problem. Scarcity exists where it shouldn’t

What we need for this particular problem is time limits on how long a property can stand vacant – fines for the owner after x amount of time, government seizure after y amount of time.  Exceptions for people who are fixing up one house at a time for resale, perhaps, because a vast majority of these vacant homes are owned by banks who foreclosed on owners and then ignored the property they seized.   Zombie homes need to be seized before they fall into extreme disrepair, and it would cost the government less to turn them over to people in need, in an organized fashion, than to ultimately tear them down.
