Some suggestions for a new year’s resolution for my fellow sherlockians:
– Read a well-recommended fic in a genre you have steered clear of before. If you’ve only read gen before, brace yourself for a shippy fic and vice versa; pick up a casefic if you’ve only read relationship-driven stuff before; try that AU everybody’s been raving about, or see if a lovingly romantic Mystrade might be able to thaw your heart, after all….
– try your hand at creating a fanwork the likes of which you thought wasn’t your game: do a moodboard, photoshop something, publish your first fic or watercolour your heart out
– when you see a ship war, do not engage
– give a fledgling writer who you think shows promise despite their fumbling start a bit of encouragement and love
– when you see a lesser-known fic that isn’t getting the love it deserves, leave a comment even if it’s just “I really liked this; thank you for writing it.”
– reblog at least fifteen new fanarts
– look after yourself and don’t let the hiatus get you down (fanworks are an excellent antidote)
– finally read the original ACD stories
– watch the Guy Ritchie movies
– watch Russian Sherlock
– tell your favourite fanartist/fic author they’re awesome
– write a helpful meta for writers about your real-life hobby/field of expertise
– decide to be a supportive, tolerant member of the awesomest fandom on earth instead of being caught up in petty drama and opinion differences
